Frequently Asked Questions

What does a mass flow controller do?
Mass flow controllers are instruments that measure and control the flow of gas in reference to a specified flow rate. When adjustments in gas flow are required to maintain that rate, the feedback from the sensor is used to create an electronic signal to send to a control valve. Mass flow controllers are calibrated for the flow range over-which they maintain control. A mass flow controller is often used for process control when accurate measurement and control over a process is required.

What’s the difference between a mass flow controller and mass flow meter?
A mass flow meter measures flow using a sensor but does not include a proportional control valve and does not control gas flow. Mass flow controllers both measure and control gas flow, according to a command signal (setpoint). To maintain this rate, the controller measures and adjusts the gas flow using a precise, proportional control valve.
